Provost Letter – Campus Space Survey

The university is required to complete an annual space survey (inventory) to meet federal, state, and local reporting requirements. This data supports reporting to a range of entities, including the National Science Foundation, the Clery Act, the Illinois Board of Higher Education, RAMP, and other oversight organizations, in addition to our campus’ operations.
The 2026 Campus-Wide Space Survey will take place from May 4 – July 2. Units are asked to complete the complete the survey, which includes the following:

  • Reviewing your space inventory for accuracy
  • Updating the location of all personnel to meet safety procedures
  • Identifying and fill out the release request form for space your unit no longer needs
Accurate space data can impact how costs for buildings and utilities are allocated under the university’s budget model.
Thank you for your time and partnership with Facilities & Services in completing these important inventory surveys and in keeping our campus data accurate and up to date. Any questions can be addressed to the Facilities Information Resources Department at F&S via 217-333-0923 or fandsfire@illinois.edu.
